Obama Nixes Vermont’s GMO Labeling Law

“Gone and hopefully forgotten.”

On July 29, President Obama signed legislation into law expressly preempting certain state labeling laws, including Vermont’s contentious and short-lived initiative to force producers to identify food made with genetically modified ingredients.

The newly minted federal law also calls upon the Secretary of Agriculture to within two years “establish a national mandatory bioengineered food disclosure standard with respect to any bioengineered food.”
